I just finished watching the Super Bowl, rooting for the underdog Saints all the way. We're all just a few weeks into the new year, and already the Saints are celebrating their championship! What are you doing?
I know, I know, everyone's talking how bad things still are. But, back in December of 2008, I was blessed with the insight of a friend who was as hellbent on moving forward in this economy as I was. Jenna Doughton, a personal stylist, and I decided we were going to change our attitudes regardless of the doom and gloom around us. To set the tone, she and I would call each other every day to count down to the new year and a fresh beginning. (http://www.jennadoughton.com/)
When January 1, 2009 arrived, we met to toast the start of a fabulous year, and to share our business and financial goals. But, it didn't end there.
Jenna suggested that we be each other's business coaches, and I agreed. Now, people spend a lot of money to hire a coach. We decided we were the right match for each other and that we could do this without outside help. We were both entrepreneurs, both have a strong business and marketing sense, and although we support each other we don't compete. We're in completely different industries and our goal is to help each other succeed, not to be better than the other. We're there to help the other be the best that she can be.
After January 1, we made it a point to call each other every few days for pep talks and quick updates, then met every few weeks for lunch for a more formal update and brainstorming session. By June, we were both so busy doing things we loved, we barely had time to meet!
Needless to say, 2009 was a very accomplishing year for both of us. We didn't hit every goal, but we are in stronger positions than we were in late 2008. We were also better prepared for 2010 and made more intelligent plans for the year.
I'll share more details of how to make a system like this work for you, along with other bits of business wisdom in upcoming blogs. Feel free to send me your questions.
All the best,
Cindi
